Disaster Risk Reduction and Planting Trees in PakistanPakistan's North West Frontier Province March 1, 2008 In December 2007 SFL received funding from Tear Fund U.K. to begin DRR work in the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province. DRR is a development method that allows individual communities to identify potential disaster risks and, create solutions through partnership with SFL. The types of risks identified by communities cover a broad spectrum of dangers, including poor location of housing in relationship landslide and flood areas, lack of pre-designated emergency gathering points, and even unreliable water supply. SFL is currently in the process of working with local committees in 4 villages to identify future risks, and in March 2008, SFL and community members planted 2000 trees in an area prone to erosion and landslides. |
