Online Privacy Policy

Shelter For Life International, Inc. (SFL) is committed to respecting your online privacy and security.   SFL provides this Online Privacy Policy to make you aware of our privacy policy and security practices, and to inform you of the way your information is collected and used.  We also provide you with the opportunity to remove your name from our mailing list, if you desire to do so.

Effective Date of Policy. This policy is effective as of August 9, 2006, and governs the use of personal information provided online to SFL on or after the effective date of the policy.

Information Collected. On SFL's website, www.shelter.org, you can provide contact information for SFL-related purposes or make contributions to SFL.  Here are the types of personal information that you may be asked to provide:

  • contact information, such as name, complete address, phone number and email address;
  • payment information, such as credit card number and expiration date, card security code and billing information; and
  • information you wish to leave: questions, comments, suggestions.

How Information is Used. SFL uses your information to help you complete a transaction, to communicate back to you, to solicit donations, and/or to update you on SFL news.  Credit card numbers entered on our website are used only for donation or payment processing and are not retained for other purposes.  We may use your questions or comments to provide you with information about SFL.

Sharing of Personal Information. To better facilitate the secure processing of online donations, SFL partners with a third-party donations processing service that has committed itself to high standards of security.   Use of this service ensures maximum security because your credit card number submitted online is never visible to SFL, and your donation directly credits SFL's bank account.   The security policy of this third-party service may be reviewed at https://donatelinq.net/aslan-donate/policy.asp.

From time to time, SFL utilizes a third-party mailing company to send updates or other communications to donors, prospective donors, and other contacts.   As part of any agreement with such a company, SFL requires that all mailing information provided to the company must be returned to SFL or destroyed upon completion of the mailing.   SFL does not provide personal financial information to any third-party mailing company.

SFL will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to other organizations.  Except as explicitly described in this privacy policy, we assure you that the identity of all who contact us through our website will be kept confidential.  Use of personal information will be limited to the internal purposes of SFL and only to further the organization, activities and purposes of SFL.

Security. SFL is committed to ensuring the security of your personal information.  To prevent unauthorized access and ensure the proper use of information, appropriate safeguards are in place to secure the personal financial information you provide online.  Internet encryption software, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol is used when collecting or transferring credit card information.

Cookies. From time to time, we may send a "cookie" to your computer.  A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer's hard drive.  Once placed onto your machine, the cookie will allow the website to "recognize" you as a unique individual.  A cookie can't read data off your hard drive or read cookie files created by other sites.  Cookies do not damage your system.  We use cookies to recognize you when you return to our site.   SFL's website does not use cookies to store private financial information of any kind.

Many websites place cookies on your hard drive.  You can choose whether to accept cookies by changing the settings of your browser.  Your browser can refuse all cookies, or show you when a cookie is being sent.  If you choose not to accept these cookies, your experience at our site and other websites may be diminished and some features may not work as intended.
